AWS A5.9 /ASME SFA5.9 is the specification for welding consumables: wire, electrodes, and rods for arc welding of stainless and heat-resisting steels. Class ER308/ ER308L/ ER308H Welding Rods are used extensively for GMAW, GTAW and SAW welding of 18Cr-8Ni, 19Cr-9Ni and 20Cr-10Ni stainless steel such as 304, 304L and 304H materials. Because the content of the extra element of 308 can better stabilize the weld area higher strength at elevated temperatures, ER308L is also an acceptable choice because its low carbon content can reduce the tendency of intercrystalline corrosion, correspondingly, it is used to weld metals with similar composition; such as 304L in wrought and cast forms.
